Adobe Acrobat Reader DC – RdrCEF has stopped working

RdrCEF issues – Adobe has recently released an update that looks to have caused issues with 2008 R2 servers.

Adobe Reader version 2017.009.20044 is causing problems for Adobe Acrobat Reader DC upon launch.

After installing this update, you may see the following error:

‘Adobe RdrCEF has stopped working’. The ‘APPCRASH’ application name is ‘RdrCEF.exe’.

To resolve this problem, simply navigate to the following location:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat Reader DC\Reader\AcroCEF

Once there, you then need to move/delete the following ‘exe’ files:

  • RdrCEF.exe
  • RdrServicesUpdater.exe

Once these files are either moved to another location or removed, you should now be able to open Adobe Reader with no issues!

Feel free to let us know if we’ve helped solve the issue by leaving a comment below or contacting the team.
