What is the Internet of things?
Through the Internet of Things we are creating technology with the endless ability to view and measure everything around us.
The Internet of things (IOT) is based on the notions of sensors, people, processes and connectivity.
Simply put, the Internet of things is the concept of connecting any device to the internet or to each other. This includes mobile phones, laptops, wearable devices and in some cases even coffee machines. All this information gathered is then digitalised and made available online for analysis, where we are then able to combine and compare data to help with both personal and business decision making.
Why do we benefit from this connectivity?
Two of the main advantages of this technology is productivity and efficiency. Through the IOT everything is connected – your alarm clock could wake you up on a morning and tell the coffee machine to start brewing. Your car could have access to your schedule and alert you to the best routes to take in order to avoid traffic… the possibilities are endless.
